The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) elected Petra Hielkema, Chairperson of EIOPA as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee (ExCo) for a term of two years. As IAIS ExCo Vice Chair, Petra Hielkema will contribute to developing, and assisting in the implementation of principles and standards, promoting a more cohesive and effective framework for the insurance sector worldwide. Furthermore, Petra Hielkema will work to enhance the IAIS’s ability to meet the diverse needs of all its members.
On that occasion Petra Hielkema, said: ‘This appointment reflects EIOPA’s strong commitment to international cooperation and its role as a key player in shaping the global insurance supervisory landscape. I am looking forward to working closely with the IAIS Secretariat, its members, and other stakeholders to advance the organization’s objectives and promote a more resilient and stable insurance sector globally’.
The role of ExCo
The IAIS executive committee is responsible for providing the overall strategic direction and managing the association’s activities. More generally, the ExCo is charged to ensure the sound functioning and furtherance of the mission of the IAIS.
